Honoring the Past, Reshaping the Present
Bridging Ancient Nordic Traditions with Modern Soundscapes
Founded in 2003 by Einar Selvik alongside Gaahl and Lindy-Fay Hella, Wardruna has grown into a beacon of Norse cultural revivalism. Drawing on the wisdom of ancient Nordic traditions and esoteric practices, the group creates deeply resonant, modern compositions. Through their evolving soundscapes, they explore and reanimate Norse mythology and the primal sounds of the past. Each album, from the Runaljod trilogy to Skald and Kvitravn, adds new layers, revealing the group’s dedication to Norse heritage and its relevance today.

a conjunction of the earthy, the organic and the ethereal
More than a tribute to the past, Wardruna’s music renews Norse traditions, exploring humanity’s connection to nature. By combining ancient instruments and sounds, they remind us of our bond with the natural world and the insights it holds for today.
Nature as muse
Wardruna’s creative process begins in nature. Einar Selvik describes this as a "dialogue" with the land, listening for inspiration among trees, rocks, and water. This deep immersion informs Wardruna’s soundscapes, drawing on nature’s energy to create something profoundly resonant and timeless.
Traditional Meets Contemporary
Wardruna combines historical Nordic instruments, like deer-hide drums and tagelharpes, with sounds from the natural world—trees, stones, fire, and water. This blend of old and new creates a unique sound, offering fresh insight into ancient wisdom.
A Global Reach
Wardruna’s music has captured audiences worldwide. From Runaljod to Kvitravn, each album explores Norse myths and animism, with Kvitravn charting across 13 countries. Their music in shows like Vikings and Assassin’s Creed – Valhalla has introduced Norse culture to new fans around the world.
