Runaljod

The Tree of Life in Sound
Following the release of Runaljod – Gap Var Ginnunga, we embarked on the next chapter of our musical trilogy: Runaljod – Yggdrasil. Where the first album represented the primordial void and the forging of creation, Yggdrasil explores the sacred world tree and its vital role in Norse cosmology.
The name Yggdrasil refers to the great tree that connects the nine worlds, serving as a bridge between different realms of existence. This concept is central to Norse mythology, symbolizing interconnectedness, growth, and wisdom. Our aim with this album was to sonically interpret the runes associated with life, nature, and the deep-rooted wisdom of the tree itself.
To achieve this, we once again employed traditional Nordic instruments, field recordings, and the human voice as a powerful narrative tool. The sounds of water, wind, trees, and animals were woven into the compositions, emphasizing our intrinsic relationship with nature. We wanted listeners to feel as though they were walking among the roots of Yggdrasil, listening to its whispers and the knowledge it holds.
With Runaljod – Yggdrasil, we sought to deepen the immersive experience started in Gap Var Ginnunga, encouraging reflection on our place within the natural world. This album became a bridge—much like the tree itself—between the past and present, inviting listeners to connect with ancient wisdom through music.
We are deeply grateful for the journey this album has taken us on and for the support of those who continue to walk this path with us. The exploration of the runes and their meanings did not end here, but led us toward the final chapter: Runaljod – Ragnarok.
