Skald

Skald stands apart from our previous works, bringing the ancient tradition of Norse storytelling and poetry to the forefront. Stripped down to its core, this album honors the skaldic art of oral transmission, where words and melodies hold the power of history and myth.

Echoes of the Ancient Poets

With Skald, we took a step back from the grand soundscapes of the Runaljod trilogy to explore a more intimate and raw form of expression. This album pays homage to the skalds—poets and storytellers of the Viking Age who preserved knowledge, history, and myth through their words and melodies.

Unlike our previous albums, Skald relies heavily on the human voice, accompanied by the rhythmic resonance of the taglharpa, kraviklyra, and goat horn. The simplicity of these elements allows the stories to stand at the center, evoking the oral traditions that shaped Norse culture for centuries.

The themes explored in Skald are deeply rooted in both historical texts and personal interpretations of ancient wisdom. Through poetic meter and traditional melodies, we sought to breathe life into the old sagas and skaldic verses, creating a bridge between the past and the present.

This album is a reflection on the power of words—how they shape and preserve culture, how they inspire and connect us across generations. It is an invitation to listen, to reflect, and to immerse oneself in the echoes of those who came before us.

We are grateful to all who continue to explore this journey with us, embracing the spirit of the skalds and keeping the tradition alive.
